Loved the first one and love the second “volume”. Thankfully, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is more of what made the first one so good. It begins with a fantastic opening scene that is a great mixture of action, humour and 80’s music and that’s pretty much what you get for the rest of the film (although somehow it’s also quite touching).
I won’t spoil the storyline but it’s safe to assume there are unusual alien races, space battles and colourful baddies all mixed up with some galaxy saving (plus an unexpected but humorous appearance of an 80’s TV icon!).
James Gunn somehow manages to juggle all characters well and they all get moments to shine and evolve, although this time around most of the comedy moments are Drax and Groot related.
Not much else to say really but I do recommend a watch for all the family as both kids and the trouble and strife loved it.
Note: Remember to stay to the very end as there are five, yes five extras scenes………..
Verdict: A very good sequel that matches the original for spectacle and fun but falls a bit short on originality. Roll on Volume 3.
